XV16 Transmission Recall Affected Range Expanded
Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., has decided that a defect which relates
to motor vehicle safety exists in 1999, 2000, and certain 2001 XV16 (“Road
Star,” “Midnight Star,” and “Road Star Silverado”)
model motorcycles. This is an expansion of the range of affected motorcycles
covered by the recalls announced in Technical Bulletin M2004-001 and M2003-011.
All XV1600 motorcycles are now included in the affected range for this defect,
including those prior to the range announced in M2003-011.
In affected motorcycles, certain transmission components may not meet Yamaha
quality-control standards, which could allow abnormal wear that eventually
results in a broken retaining circlip. If the circlip breaks, the transmission
could lock up, which would also cause the rear wheel to lock up. This could
result in loss of control and a vehicle crash with injury or death.
To correct this defect, Yamaha is expanding its Factory Modification Campaign.
Affected motorcycles must have certain transmission components replaced with
new ones. The modification is the same as that announced in M2004-001.
Motorcycles already modified as part of the previously announced recalls
do not require any additional action now.
In the near future, Yamaha will notify all registered owners of motorcycles
in this expanded range by mail. Yamaha will also send a bulletin with the
expanded range to all authorized Yamaha Motorcycle dealers |
